How To: Manage Account Credits

Teletask Credit accounts have purchased a specific number of credits to be used within a period of time (typically a one year contract). Your available credits can be viewed under the Plan Summary on the Settings page.

Types of credits

Text Messages

Text Message credits are based off the number of messages that are being used. 1 credit is equal to 160 standard characters or 70 characters with Unicode (What is Unicode SMS)

When sending multiple messages, the maximum number of standard characters is shortened to 153 or 67 characters for Unicode. Most messages are limited to 306 maximum characters, which is 2 credits per message.
This chart shows a breakdown of the maximum number of characters for each message length.

Example: If you are sending out a Text message that is 2 messages in length per contact, each message would be 2 credits per contact.
Tip: To slow down the rate of usage, we recommend decreasing your message to 160 characters or less so that it utilizes only 1 credit per contact.

When sending a Text and Voice message, you can choose the option to send the Text message 1st. Contacts with undelivered Text messages would then receive a Voice message. The attempted Text messages that are not answered will still use credits but the total will be less than sending all the Text and Voice messages together.

Auto Responses

Auto responses also use credits. If a contact texts a response, and this uses a credit, and if an an auto response is generated (160 characters or less) that is 1 credit. The auto response that gets generated and sent to the contact (160 characters or less) is an additional 1 credit.

Voice Messages

Voice Message credits are based off the length of the voice message. 1 credit is equal to the first 60 seconds of time of a phone call. Each additional 60 second period is an additional credit.

Example: If a contact receives a voice message that is 40 seconds in length and listens to the whole message twice (80 seconds) that would be 2 credits.
Tip: To slow down the rate of usage, you can decrease the number of times a message repeats itself and shorten the length of the initial message. The redial attempts can be set for each voice message under the Set Call Preferences option. For more information visit: How to: Utilize Advanced Voice Messaging Settings

When sending a Text and Voice message, you can choose the option to send the Voice message 1st. Contacts with undelivered Voice messages would receive a Text message.

Email Messages

Email Message credits are based off each email. 1 email is equal to 1 credit.

Chat Messages

Chat messages use credits when both sending and receiving chat messages. 1 chat message (160 standard characters or less) is equal to 1 credit, and longer messages could could equal more credits.

Example: A user sending a chat "Thank you for choosing Teletask, can we schedule a time to meet with you today?" and then receiving the response for a contact "I'm available Thursday." Plus another chat from the contact "Does that work for you?" This exchange would be a total of 3 credits. 1 credit for sending the initial message and 1 credit for each individual reply.

Web Surveys / Document Requests

Sending a web survey or document request would use credits based on if it is a Chat or Text message (see above). Responses to web surveys including receiving uploading documents  will not counted towards your credits since these responses are coming from the web portal and not being sent as SMS messages.
